4-H Program of Yolo County
What is 4-H?
4-H provides youth with a variety of learning experiences that contribute to personal growth and development. Youth are encouraged to set their own goals and make their own plans and decisions. The program helps them to become self-reliant, responsible, and productive members of society.
What is the time commitment?
The 4-H club year follows the academic school year. Members join Community Clubs, which meet once a month to discuss their project work in a variety of subjects.
Projects are offered by each club, and are led by volunteer adults and parents. In addition, some projects are offered countywide to all 4-H members. Project meetings take place in addition to the monthly Community Club meeting, and are set by the leader of each project. Projects are required to meet for at least six hours over the course of the year.
A list of current Community Clubs can be found HERE.
Who can participate?
Youth who are the ages of 5-19 (as of December 31 of the calendar year) are eligible to participate in 4-H. Please note: youth aged 5-8 years old are eligible to participate in Creative Arts & Sciences projects as well as Small Animal projects, but are not allowed to show in any project competition, including showmanship.
In addition, adult volunteers are an integral part of 4-H. Adults are vital in helping youth get the most out of 4-H by leading projects, encouraging children to try new things, and helping out at events.
How much does it cost?
Current enrollment fees are $35.00 for youth and $12.00 for adult volunteers. Some projects may have additional expenses, such as purchasing bedding and feed for animals, or purchasing fabric for Sewing. A 4-H uniform is available, but is not required for participation. Dress Code
