"Fish play an important part of the diets of many Californians, especially communities where families subsist on fish caught in local water bodies. While fish are an excellent source of protein and other nutrients, exposure to chemicals that can be found in fish poses a significant health concern. This is especially true for pregnant and breastfeeding women, women of childbearing age, and children and teens. Federal, state, and local agencies have issued health advisories that recommend limiting or avoiding consumption of those fish known to be high in mercury and other chemicals" CA Dept. of Health Services, 2005.
