Youth Nutrition Curriculum
The University of California Youth Nutrtion Education program helps teachers and educators incorporate nutrition and physical education activities in the classroom by using age-appropriate curriculum developed by the University of California. The curriculum has been designed to meet academic standards, and has won national awards.
If more than 50% of your students qualify to recieve free or reduced price lunches, you get all of the materials for free! Otherwise, some of the materials can be purchased from anrcatalog@ucdavis.edu.
The Curriculum We Use in Yolo County:
Happy Healthy Me - Preschool and Kindergarten
Helps children become aware of food and nutrition by reading storybooks with food-related themes and using hands-on nutrition education and physical activities.
Reading Across MyPyramid (RAMP) - Kingergarten to Third Grade
Helps children become aware of food and nutrition by reading storybooks with food-related themes and using hands-on nutrition education and physical activities.
Farm to Fork - Kindergarten to Third Grade
Makes the connection between local food systems, garden-based learning, school food service, and the establishment of healthy habits.
Power Play! - Fourth and Fifth Grade
Encourages students to eat fruits and vegetables every day and gives creative ways for the students to successfully do so. Power Play! is designed for maximum learning using integrative and fun activities, and taste-testing to hold the interest of this age group.
Nutrition to Grow On - Fourth to Sixth Grades
Offers teachers a direct link between the garden and nutrition education. This multi-disciplinary curriculum enriches students' capabilities for observation and thinking, and encourages them to develop a wide range of skills.
TWIGS - Kindergarten to Sixth Grades
TWIGS focuses on gardening and how the foods we grow are used in our bodies as building blocks and as energy providers. Students are given the tools to plant and care for a garden. This curriculum is flexible, and the lessons can easily be used in a classroom, after-school program, or club.
EatFit - Middle School to High School
Designed to improve the eating and fitness choices of teenagers. Lessons include nutrition basics, web-based diet analysis, information about energy and calories, label reading, exercise, fast food, breakfast, and media influences.
WalkFit - Middle School to High School
Includes six lessons promoting physical activity, math, physical education, health content standards, and guided goal setting. Each interactive lesson provides students with new ways to live an active lifestyle, while building their math skills in an experiential way.
Money Talks - High School
Assists teens in identifying their money spending and saving habits, understanding the importance of long term savings, and developing savings plans that meet their livestyles. These lessons help teens pay attention to their food spending habits.
Jump Start Teens - Ninth to Twelfth Grades
Set of eight interactive cross-curricular lessons. The learning content is based on comprehensive school health principles, and benefits students by integrating physical activity and nutrition into various subject areas and promoting active learning through a hands-on approach.
